For the first time in human history, self-representation is no longer bottlenecked by resource, skill, or access. Every prior civilization had this problem. Who you were to others was gated by what you could afford to project. Clothes. Architecture. Portraits. Business cards. Storefronts. Websites. The presentation layer was always a class signal because it cost something to produce well. The internet was supposed to fix this. It didn't. It just moved the paywall. Now you needed to buy design, buy templates, buy expertise, buy time. The digital caste system replicated the physical one. Ugly web presence = low status, low trust, low conversion. Beautiful presence = expensive, therefore exclusive. Footprint breaks the link between resources and representation.
